Effect of Pregnancy and Parturition on Pelvic Floor Function
Our research group uses a multi-prong approach to study the impact of pregnancy and parturition on the structure, function, plasticity, and regenerative potential of the female pelvic soft tissues. Facilitated by such interdisciplinary approach, our results will improve understanding of the transition of female pelvic soft tissues across the ante-, intra-, and post-partum continuum, as well as from a physiological to a pathological state. The above has major implications for the development of effective preventative and mitigating strategies, and will help reduce the epidemic of pelvic floor disorders and improve the lives of millions of women.
